Local Government Act 2002

Consequential amendments, repeals, revocations, transitional provisions, and savings - Transitional provisions

274: First local governance statement

You could also call this:

“First plan about how the council will work and talk to people”

If you’re part of a local authority that existed on 1 July 2003, you need to do something important. You have to create a document called a local governance statement. This statement must include all the information that section 40(1) says it should have. You need to finish making this statement and make it available for everyone to see before the end of 31 December 2003.
