Local Government Act 2002

Offences, penalties, infringement offences, and legal proceedings - Infringement offences

243: Interpretation

You could also call this:

“Explaining what important words mean in this part of the law”

In this part of the law, you need to know what some words mean. Here’s what they mean:

An ‘alcohol ban’ is a rule made under section 147.

When it comes to an alcohol ban, an ‘enforcement officer’ is a police officer.

An ‘infringement fee’ is the amount of money you have to pay if you break certain rules. For offences listed in section 259(a), the fee is set by rules in section 259(b). If you break an alcohol ban, the fee is also set by rules in section 259(b).

An ‘infringement offence’ is a rule-breaking that’s listed in section 259(a). It also includes breaking an alcohol ban.

This definition of ‘enforcement officer’ is different from the one in section 5. For alcohol bans, this definition is the one that counts.
