Local Government Act 2002

Planning, decision-making, and accountability - Planning and decision-making - Consultation

86: Use of special consultative procedure in relation to making, amending, or revoking bylaws

You could also call this:

“Special steps for making, changing, or cancelling local rules”

When you need to make, change, or cancel a bylaw, you might have to use a special process called the special consultative procedure. This process is described in another part of the law.

If you need to use this special process, you have to write a statement that explains your plan. This statement needs to include a few important things:

First, you need to show people exactly what you want to do. If you’re making a new bylaw or changing an old one, you need to include a draft of the new or changed bylaw. If you’re cancelling a bylaw, you need to say that clearly.

Next, you need to explain why you want to make this change. You should tell people the reasons behind your plan.

Finally, you need to include a report. This report should talk about any important decisions your local authority has made about the bylaw. These decisions are described in another part of the law.

Remember, this process is designed to make sure everyone understands what’s happening with the bylaws in your area.
