Local Government Act 2002

Governance and management of local authorities and community boards - Local boards

48B: Interpretation

You could also call this:

“What 'local activities' means in this law”

In this part of the law, you need to understand what ‘local activities’ means. Local activities are the things that a unitary authority does that don’t involve making rules. A local board gets to make decisions about these activities.

Local activities include:

  1. Providing services to the community.
  2. Setting up and running facilities for people to use.
  3. Giving money and other kinds of support to groups and organisations in the area.

These are the main things that count as local activities in this law. When you see ‘local activities’ mentioned in other parts of this law, it refers to these kinds of tasks that local boards can decide on.
