Local Government Act 2002

Regulatory, enforcement, and coercive powers of local authorities - Powers in relation to private land - Recovery of costs

187: Recovery of cost of works by local authority

You could also call this:

“If you break the rules, your council can fix it and make you pay”

If you don’t do something that the law says you should, and it’s against the rules in this Act, the local authority (like your local council) might be allowed to do it for you. If they do, you’ll have to pay them back for the work they did. You’ll also need to pay extra for the time they spent organising and checking the work. The local authority can ask you to pay all of this money back to them.
