Local Government Act 2002

Powers of Minister to act in relation to local authorities - General provisions applying to Ministerial powers conferred under subpart 1

258S: Notification of appointment of Ministerial body

You could also call this:

“Minister must tell everyone about new government group and what it does”

When the Minister appoints a Ministerial body, they must provide a notice that includes specific information. This notice needs to state that the Minister has appointed a Ministerial body and explain what the body is supposed to do. It also needs to say when the body will start and finish its work. The notice must list the names of everyone in the Ministerial body and, if there’s a chairperson, their name too.

If the notice is about appointing a Commission, and the Minister has also delayed the next local election, the notice needs to mention this as well. It should say that the Minister has postponed the election and will announce a new election date before the Commission finishes its job.

You can find more details about when the Minister can appoint these bodies in section 258(1), 258B(1), 258D(1), or 258F(1). If you want to know more about postponing elections, you can look at section 258I.
