Regulatory, enforcement, and coercive powers of local authorities - Development contributions - Use of development contributions

207: Power to use money collected and held under Local Government Act 1974 or Resource Management Act 1991

You could also call this:

“Money from old laws can be used in new ways with permission”

You can use money that was collected under certain old laws in a new way. This applies to money collected as contributions under Part 20 of the Local Government Act 1974 or under sections 407 or 409 of the Resource Management Act 1991.

If a territorial authority (like a council) has this money when this new law starts, they can use it as if it was collected under the new rules. But they need to get written permission from the Minister first.

For money that was collected under the Local Government Act 1974, you can use it according to the new rules in this part of the law.

For money that was collected under the Resource Management Act 1991, you need to follow the conditions that were set when the money was first collected.
