Council-controlled organisations and council organisations - Council-controlled organisation planning

64B: Statement of expectations

You could also call this:

“A letter telling a council-owned company how to work with others”

The shareholders who own a council-controlled organisation can write a statement of expectations. This statement explains how the organisation should work with local authorities that own shares, the communities in those areas, and Māori groups.

The statement can say that the organisation must follow the rules that the local authorities have to follow. It can also say that the organisation must stick to agreements that the shareholders have made with other groups, including Māori organisations.

The statement of expectations might include other things that the shareholders want, like how the organisation should talk to the community and work with shareholders and others when providing services.

After the statement is written, it must be put on the internet. You’ll be able to find it on the website of each local authority that owns shares in the organisation.
