Local Government Act 2002

Regulations, other Orders in Council, and rules - Other Orders in Council

261: Circumstances when Order in Council may extend time or validate action taken

You could also call this:

“Rules for getting more time or fixing mistakes in local government tasks”

The Governor-General can make an Order in Council to do one or more of these things:

You can get more time to finish something that the Local Government Act 2002 says you need to do, if you haven’t done it or can’t do it in time.

If you do something after the time the Act says you should have done it, the Order can make it okay.

If you make a small mistake in how you do something the Act requires, the Order can fix that mistake.

The Order can also provide a solution if the Act doesn’t cover a situation well enough.

When an Order like this is made, it becomes secondary legislation. This means it needs to follow the rules in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019 about how it should be published.
