Council-controlled organisations and council organisations - Directors

57: Appointment of directors

You could also call this:

“How to choose people to be in charge of council groups”

You need to follow some rules when you choose people to be directors of a council organisation. Your local authority must have a plan that explains how they will do this. This plan should describe how they will find out what skills, knowledge, and experience are needed for directors. It should also explain how they will choose and pay these directors.

When your local authority wants to make someone a director, they can only choose a person who they think has the right skills, knowledge, or experience. This person needs to be able to guide the organisation and help it achieve its goals.

When your local authority is thinking about what skills directors need, they should also think about whether knowing Māori customs and traditions might be important for running the organisation.
