Local Government Act 2002

Consequential amendments, repeals, revocations, transitional provisions, and savings - Transitional provisions

273: First triennial agreement

You could also call this:

“Local councils must make a plan to work together for three years”

If you are part of a local authority in a region on 1 July 2003, you need to work with all the other local authorities in your region to make an agreement. This agreement needs to be finished by 31 December 2003. In this agreement, you need to write down how you will talk to each other and work together until the next big election where members are chosen. This election happens every three years. The agreement you make is called a triennial agreement, and it follows the rules set out in section 15 of the law.
