Local Government Act 2002

Consequential amendments, repeals, revocations, transitional provisions, and savings - Transitional provisions

303: Public Bodies Leases Act 1969

You could also call this:

“Rules for renting out public land are changing”

From now on, territorial authorities and regional councils are no longer considered leasing authorities under the Public Bodies Leases Act 1969. This change starts when this section of the law comes into effect.

However, even though this change has been made, the Public Bodies Leases Act 1969 still applies in some cases. It continues to apply to any lease or tenancy that a territorial authority or regional council gave out before this section started. It also applies to any lease or tenancy given after this section started if it’s renewing a lease or tenancy that was already covered by the Public Bodies Leases Act 1969.

This means that even though the law has changed, some older agreements and their renewals will still follow the old rules. The new law doesn’t change how these specific leases and tenancies work.
