Local Government Act 2002

Powers of Minister to act in relation to local authorities - General provisions applying to Ministerial powers conferred under subpart 1

258Z: Disclosure of information held by local authority

You could also call this:

“Sharing information from local councils with the government”

For this part of the law, you can share information that a local authority has with the Minister or a Ministerial body. You can do this even if other laws like the Official Information Act 1982, the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, or the Privacy Act 2020 say you can’t.

But be careful! The Minister, the Ministerial body, or someone the Minister chose can’t share that information with anyone else unless those laws say it’s okay.

When we talk about the Minister in this part, we’re also talking about the people who work for the Minister and the Cabinet.
