Local Government Act 2002

Powers of Minister to act in relation to local authorities - General provisions applying to Ministerial powers conferred under subpart 1

258N: Minister may consult any person

You could also call this:

“The Minister can choose to talk to anyone about certain decisions”

The Minister has the option to talk to any person, group, or organisation about certain decisions, but they don’t have to. This applies when they’re deciding what to do under subpart 1 of this Part of the law, when they’re choosing people for a Ministerial group under subpart 1, or when they’re writing down what the Ministerial group should do.

The Minister can also choose to talk to people, groups, or organisations when they’re thinking about delaying a general election under section 258I, or when they’re calling for a general election under section 258M. But again, they don’t have to talk to anyone if they don’t want to.
