Local Government Act 2002

Specific obligations and restrictions on local authorities and other persons - Specific obligations to make assessments of drinking water, wastewater, and sanitary services and to ensure communities have access to safe drinking water

128: Requirement to assess wastewater and other sanitary services

You could also call this:

“Checking if your area's wastewater and cleaning services are working well”

You need to check how well your area is doing with wastewater and other sanitary services. This means looking at things like sewage systems and other services that keep your community clean and healthy.

When you do this check, you need to think about a few important things. You need to look at how these services affect people’s health. Are there any places where these services are missing or not working well? This could make people sick.

You also need to look at how good the current services are. Are they doing a good job of keeping things clean? Then, you need to think about how many people might need these services now and in the future.

Lastly, you need to think about what happens when stormwater (rain that runs off roads and buildings) and sewage get into the environment. This could cause problems for your area.

You can look at different types of services together if that makes sense. For example, you might look at wastewater and stormwater at the same time because they’re connected.

This whole process is about making sure your community stays healthy and clean, now and in the future.
