Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Care and protection of children and young persons - Agreements for care of children and young persons

143: All parents or guardians not required to be party to agreement

You could also call this:

"You can make care plans for a child without all parents or guardians agreeing."

Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

When you are making an agreement about the care of a child or young person, you do not need all parents or guardians to be part of it. You can make an agreement under section 140 without a parent or guardian if they agree in writing, or if you cannot find them after trying really hard, or if they are not able to enter into the agreement. This means you can still make plans for the child or young person's care even if one of their parents or guardians is not involved.
