When you are involved in a family group conference, you can make decisions and recommendations about what should happen to you. You can also make plans that you think are necessary or desirable. The conference must consider the principles set out in section 208 when making decisions and recommendations. You can recommend what should happen to any court case against you, such as whether it should continue or be stopped, and you can also recommend that you receive a formal Police caution or that restorative justice actions be taken, as stated in section 259(2) and section 258(1)(a)(ii).

260Family group conference may make decisions and recommendations and formulate plans

  1. Subject to section 259(2), a family group conference convened under this Part may make such decisions and recommendations and formulate such plans as it considers necessary or desirable in relation to the child or young person in respect of whom the conference was convened.

  2. Except as provided in section 258(1)(a)(ii), in making such decisions and recommendations and formulating such plans, the conference shall have regard to the principles set out in section 208.

  3. Without limiting the generality of subsection (1), a family group conference may—

  4. recommend that any proceedings commenced against the child or young person for any offence should proceed or be discontinued:
    1. recommend that a formal Police caution should be given to the child or young person:
      1. recommend that a restorative justice action or actions be undertaken:
        1. recommend that an application for a care or protection order should be made in respect of the child:
          1. recommend appropriate penalties that might be imposed on the young person:
            1. recommend that the child or young person make reparation to any victim of the offence.
