If a court decides to transfer protection proceedings, the case is stopped in the New Zealand court. This happens when the order to transfer is registered in the court of the other state, following their laws. You can find more information about how this law was changed by looking at the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Trans-Tasman Transfer of Protection Orders and Proceedings) Amendment Act 1999.
