Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Care and protection of children and young persons - Support orders

97: Court may impose conditions in respect of parent, guardian, etc, of child or young person

You could also call this:

"Court can add rules to help parents or guardians care for a child or young person"

Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

If a court decides that someone must support a child or young person who is 14 or 15 years old, the court can add conditions to the order. You might wonder what these conditions are for - they are to help the parents or guardians take care of the child or young person and do their jobs properly. The court also wants to encourage the parents, guardians, and the child or young person to work together with the support person.

The court will only add these conditions if the parents or guardians have had a chance to tell the court what they think. The court must listen to what they have to say before making a decision. This is an important part of the process to make sure everyone's voice is heard.
