When you are a youth justice co-ordinator, you have several jobs. You receive reports as stated in section 18(3). You work with the police to find ways to deal with a child or young person who has allegedly committed a crime without going to court.

You set up family group conferences as outlined in Part 4 and have more meetings if needed. You write down what is decided or planned at these conferences, as stated in Part 4. You tell people the results of the family group conference, following the rules in section 265.

You also do other tasks that are required by this Act or other laws.

426Duties of youth justice co-ordinator

  1. The duties of a youth justice co-ordinator are as follows:

  2. to receive reports in accordance with section 18(3):
    1. where a child or young person is alleged to have committed an offence, to explore with the relevant enforcement agency the possibility of dealing with the matter by means other than the institution of criminal proceedings:
      1. to convene family group conferences in accordance with Part 4, and, where necessary, to convene further meetings of any such conference:
        1. to record the details of any decision, recommendation, or plan made or formulated by a family group conference pursuant to Part 4:
          1. to notify the results of a family group conference in accordance with section 265:
            1. to perform such other duties as may be prescribed by or under this Act or any other Act.
