Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

The purpose of this part of the law is to help children or young people who need care or protection. You might be one of these children or young people, and you might move to or from New Zealand. This law helps make sure you can still get the care or protection you need, even if you move. This law also helps speed up decisions about your care or protection, so you do not have to wait a long time. It does this by letting New Zealand and Australia share information about protection orders and proceedings, so you can get the help you need quickly.
