Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Youth justice - Disposal of proceedings in Youth Court

288: Order in respect of parent or guardian or other person having care not to be made without first informing of proposal to make order and giving opportunity to make representations

You could also call this:

"The court must tell your parents or caregivers about plans that affect you and listen to what you think before making a decision."

Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Before the court makes an order about you under section 283, it must tell your parent or guardian, or the person taking care of you, about the plan to make the order. You and your parent or guardian, or the person taking care of you, must be given a chance to tell the court what you think. The court will listen to what you have to say before making a decision, and this is part of the process outlined in the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, which includes section 283.
