If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person, and a protection order is registered in a New Zealand court under section 207X, this section applies to you. You must be treated in a way that follows a special principle, which is explained in section 5(1)(c)(iv). This principle guides the court or person making decisions about you.

When a court or person is making decisions about you, they have to think about this principle. They have to consider what is best for you, and make sure you are treated fairly. This is an important part of the law that protects you.
