If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person, and a protection order is registered in a New Zealand court under section 207X, this section applies to you. You must be treated in a way that follows a special principle, which is explained in section 5(1)(c)(iv). This principle guides the court or person making decisions about you.

207ZCAboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children or young persons

  1. This section applies if—

  2. a protection order, or an order made under an interstate law for the transfer to New Zealand of protection proceedings, is registered in a court under section 207X; and
    1. a child or young person concerned is an Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander.

      1. If this section applies in accordance with subsection (1), a court or person exercising a power conferred by or under this Act in relation to the child or young person must be guided by the principle referred to in section 5(1)(c)(iv).
