Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

If you are a child or young person and a court makes an order under section 78, you might be placed in the care of someone else. This could be the chief executive, an iwi social service, a cultural social service, or the director of a child and family support service. They can then place you with a family member, or in a residence if the chief executive is looking after you.

The person looking after you can change where you live while the court order is in place. You might move to a different house or live with a different family member.

The court order gives the person looking after you the authority to make these decisions about where you live.
