Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Youth justice - Provisions relating to admissibility of statements made by children and young persons

224: Reasonable compliance sufficient

You could also call this:

"Trying your best to follow the rules is good enough"

Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

If you make a statement, it will not be thrown out because of section 221 if you have tried your best to follow the rules. You do not have to follow the rules perfectly, just do your best to comply with them. If you have done this, your statement can still be used, even if you have not followed the rules exactly as stated in section 221.
