Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

Children and young persons in care of chief executive or other persons or bodies - Reporting of deaths

395A: Victims to be notified of deaths

You could also call this:

"Telling victims when someone who hurt them has died"

Illustration for Oranga Tamariki Act 1989

If a child or young person dies, and at the time of their death they were in a special residence because of a court order, you need to know what happens next. The chief executive must try to tell each victim of a crime committed by the child or young person that they have died. This is because the child or young person was either on remand or had a supervision order, and was living in a special residence set up under the law, such as one established under section 364, and the chief executive has to make an effort to notify the victims.
