Electoral Act 1993

Election expenses, donations, and annual financial statements - Election expenses of candidates

205R: Return of candidate's election expenses to be publicly available

You could also call this:

"Candidates' election spending is made public so you can see how much they spent."

Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

When you want to see how much money a candidate spent during an election, you can look at their return. The Electoral Commission can publish these returns in a way that they think is appropriate. They can do this by making the returns filed under section 205K available to the public. The Electoral Commission must make these returns available for you to inspect during a certain period. You can inspect the returns filed under section 205K, but the Electoral Commission might charge you a fee, which is decided under the Official Information Act 1982.
