If you are voting in an election and two or more candidates get the same number of votes, there are special rules that apply. These rules still apply even if one of the candidates dies or becomes unable to continue after the voting has finished. The rules in the Electoral Act 1993 about what happens when candidates get the same number of votes still apply in this situation.
