Electoral Act 1993

Election expenses, donations, and annual financial statements - General provisions relating to donations

207M: Records of candidate donations

You could also call this:

"Candidates must keep accurate records of donations they receive to ensure a fair election."

Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

If you are a candidate, you must keep proper records of all donations you receive. You have to make sure these records are accurate and complete. If you do not keep these records and you do not have a good reason for not doing so, you can be fined up to $40,000 if you are found guilty of the offence.

You can find more information about this by looking at the Electoral Act 1986 and the Electoral Amendment Act 2009, as well as the Criminal Procedure Act 2011.

When you keep records of donations, you are helping to make sure everything is transparent and fair, which is an important part of the electoral process in New Zealand.
