When you look at an election advertisement that has information from two or more parties, you need to figure out how much each party paid for it. The costs of the advertisement must be divided among the parties based on how much space or time each party gets in the advertisement. You calculate the costs by adding up what each party paid for their part of the advertisement.

If an advertisement has parts from multiple parties, you calculate how much of the advertisement each party gets. You do this by looking at the type of advertisement it is, like a video or a poster. The costs are then divided based on how much of the advertisement each party uses.

Only the costs that are assigned to a party are considered their election expenses. This means that each party is only responsible for the costs that are directly related to their part of the advertisement, as decided by the rules in this section, which was inserted by section 12 of the Electoral (Finance Reform and Advance Voting) Amendment Act 2010.
