Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

When you are in prison, the prison manager has to tell the Electoral Commission some things about you. The prison manager must do this within 7 days of you arriving at the prison to serve your sentence, if you are the type of person described in section 80(1)(d). They have to send a notice with your name, previous address, and date of birth.

The notice also has to include the name and address of the prison where you are being held. This is what the prison manager must send to the Electoral Commission. You will be disqualified from voting if you are in prison, as stated in the law.
