204V: Register to be public

You could also call this:

"The electoral roll must be available for the public to view for free during office hours."

Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

The Electoral Commission has to make the register available for you to look at during office hours without charging a fee. You can go to their office and inspect the register for free. The Electoral Commission also has to give you a copy of the register, or part of it, if you ask for it.

You will have to pay a charge for the copy, which is decided under the Official Information Act 1982, you can find this act at https://legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1986/0120/latest/link.aspx?id=DLM64784. The Electoral Commission will give you the copy you asked for after you pay the charge. This helps you get the information you need from the register.
