Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

When a general election is happening, you can nominate people to be candidates for electoral districts if you are the secretary of a registered political party. You must follow the rules in the Electoral Act 1993 and the people you nominate must agree to be nominated. They also need to be qualified under this Act, which means they must meet certain requirements, and you can find these requirements in the Act.

You can nominate your party's candidates by giving the Electoral Commission a bulk nomination schedule, which is a list of all your candidates. This schedule must be on a form provided by the Electoral Commission.

You can give the Electoral Commission the schedule in person, by post, or electronically, but you must do it before noon on the day before nomination day. The Electoral Commission will give you a written receipt for the schedule if they accept it.
