Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

If you get a donation and you do not know who gave it to you, you have to pay some of it to the Electoral Commission. You have 20 working days to do this. If you think the donor might be from overseas and the donation is more than $50, you pay the donation amount minus $50 to the Electoral Commission. If you do not think the donor is from overseas and the donation is more than $1,500, you pay the donation amount minus $1,500 to the Electoral Commission. The Electoral Commission puts all the money they get into a Crown Bank Account. When a party secretary gets a donation and they do not know who gave it to them, they also have to pay some of it to the Electoral Commission within 20 working days, following the same rules as you. The Electoral Commission gets the money and pays it into a Crown Bank Account, as stated in the Electoral Amendment Act 2019.
