If you want to be a registered promoter, you must apply to the Electoral Commission. You make this application yourself if you are an individual. If you are a company, someone authorised by your board of directors must make the application for you. If you are neither an individual nor a company, your authorised representative makes the application.

You must fill out the application form as required by the Electoral Commission. This form must include your name and contact details, and the name and contact details of the person who made the application if you are not an individual. If you are not an individual or a company, you must also include the names of people in positions similar to company directors. If you are a trust, you must include the names of your trustees.

When you apply, you must provide proof that the person making the application has the authority to do so, if that person is not you. You can find more information about this by looking at the Electoral (Finance Reform and Advance Voting) Amendment Act 2010.
