Registration of electors - Updating of electoral rolls

89G: Elector who cannot be contacted to be included on dormant roll

You could also call this:

"What happens if the Electoral Commission can't contact you on the electoral roll?"

Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

If you are on the electoral roll and the Electoral Commission cannot contact you, this section applies. You might not be able to be contacted if mail cannot be delivered to your address on the roll. The Electoral Commission must try to find out where you are. The Electoral Commission will try to contact you by making some inquiries. If they still cannot contact you, they will remove your name from the roll. Your name will then be included on the dormant roll, which is maintained under section 109. This happens when the Electoral Commission thinks it is necessary. You can find more information about how the electoral roll is updated in section 89D.
