Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

The Electoral Commission has to write a report about the general election to the Minister. You will want to know that this report must be done within six months of the election. The report includes things like how voting was made easier for people, how many people enrolled and voted, and any big issues that came up during the election.

The Electoral Commission also has to look at whether any changes are needed to how the election was run or to the laws around elections. They must report on the funding given to disabled candidates under the Election Access Fund Act 2020 to help them take part in the election. The Minister can also ask the Electoral Commission to include other specific things in the report.

The Minister has to give the report to the House of Representatives within five working days of getting it, or as soon as possible if Parliament is not in session. The Electoral Commission then has to make the report public as soon as possible, but no more than ten working days after the Minister gets it.
