Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

The Electoral Commission must pay money owed to a party. You get this money weekly during an election, and monthly at other times. This is according to rules set out in section 208D(1).

If a party gets interest on a donation, the Electoral Commission adds this interest to the money they pay to the party. They can also add it to money they return to the donor, or to money they put into a Crown Bank Account, as stated in section 208A(2).

The Electoral Commission follows these rules when paying money to parties, and they must pay the correct amount, including any interest earned.
