When you are elected as a member of Parliament for an electoral district, you start your job as a member of Parliament the day after the election results are officially announced. You will keep this job until the next general election, when you will stop being a member of Parliament at the end of the voting day. If you are elected from a party list, as described in section 127, you start your job as a member of Parliament the day after the Electoral Commission officially announces the results, as stated in section 193. You will also keep this job until the next general election, when you will stop being a member of Parliament at the end of the voting day. You can find more information about how this process works by looking at the relevant sections of the Electoral Act.
