42: Indexes of streets and places

"Lists of Streets and Places to Help You Find Your Electoral District"

Illustration for Electoral Act 1993

The Surveyor-General has to make a list of streets and places in each electoral district after a notice is gazetted under section 40(1)(b). You can think of this list like a big index that helps people find where streets and places are. The Surveyor-General also has to make a big index that shows all the streets and places in New Zealand and which electoral district they are in.

The Electoral Commission has to keep a copy of these indexes at their offices and in other convenient places. This means you can go to these places and look at the indexes to find information about streets and places.

The department in charge of surveys sells copies of the indexes. They sell the indexes that list streets and places in each electoral district, and they also sell the big index that lists all the streets and places in New Zealand. You can buy these indexes at the department's offices or at other places that the Electoral Commission says are convenient.
