"This part explains important words used in the law about accidents and injuries"
This part of the Accident Compensation Act 2001 talks about some important words and ideas. You'll see these words used a lot in this part of the law.
The word "accident" is explained in section 25. It tells you what counts as an accident under this law.
"Mental injury" is explained in section 27. This is about harm that affects your mind or emotions, not your body.
"Motor vehicle injury" is explained in sections 29(2) and 35. This is about injuries that happen because of motor vehicles.
"Personal injury" is explained in section 26. This term covers different types of injuries to your body or mind.
"Personal injury caused by a work-related gradual process, disease, or infection" is explained in section 30. This is about injuries or illnesses that happen slowly over time because of your job.
"Treatment injury" is explained in section 32. This is about injuries that happen when you're getting medical treatment.
"Work-related personal injury" is explained in sections 28 and 29(1). This is about injuries that happen because of your job.
