Accident Compensation Act 2001

Miscellaneous provisions - Offences and penalties generally

308: Offence to mislead Corporation

You could also call this:

“It's against the law to trick ACC to get benefits you shouldn't have”

You can get in trouble if you try to trick the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) or anyone else who helps run the ACC system. This is called misleading the Corporation.

You might mislead the Corporation by saying something that isn’t true, or by doing or not doing something to confuse people. This is wrong if you do it so that you or someone else can get money or benefits from ACC.

It’s also wrong if what you do results in you or someone else getting money or benefits from ACC that you shouldn’t have.

If you do any of these things, you might have to go to jail for up to 3 months or pay a fine of up to $5,000.
