Accident Compensation Act 2001

Entitlements and related matters - General provisions

125: Corporation to pay amount for child to caregiver or financially responsible person

You could also call this:

"ACC gives money for injured kids to their caregivers"

If you're under 16 years old and you're entitled to receive money from the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), here's what happens:

ACC will give the money to someone who is taking care of you. This could be your parent, guardian, or another caregiver. If ACC thinks it's not right to give the money to your caregiver, they might give it to someone else or to trustees. These people are supposed to use the money for your benefit.

The person who gets the money from ACC must use it to help you. This means they should spend it on things that support you, help you learn, or improve your life in some way.

ACC doesn't have to check how the money is being used after they give it out. They also can't be held responsible by you for how the money is used once they've given it to your caregiver or the person looking after the money for you.

Remember, this rule doesn't apply to weekly compensation payments. It's only for other types of money payments that ACC might give you.
