Accident Compensation Act 2001

Accident Compensation Corporation - Disclosure of information

284: Reporting of risk of harm to public

You could also call this:

“Telling officials about dangers in medical care to keep people safe”

This law is about keeping people safe when they get hurt during medical treatment. If you get hurt while getting medical care, you might make a claim to the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for help. The ACC collects information about these injuries.

Sometimes, the ACC might notice that there’s a risk that other people could get hurt in the same way. If this happens, the ACC has to tell the right authority about it. This authority is in charge of making sure patients are safe when they get medical treatment.

The ACC has to report this risk if they see it in claims about injuries from treatment, injuries from certain types of work, injuries caused by medical mistakes, or injuries similar to treatment injuries but caused by someone who isn’t a registered health professional.

When the ACC reports the risk, they also have to share any other important information they have about it. This is to help keep everyone safe when they get medical care.
