302: Minister of Health's responsibilities for purchase of public health acute services and other health services

You could also call this:

“The Health Minister makes deals to ensure promised health services are provided and reported on”

The Minister of Health has to make agreements with Health New Zealand or other providers. These agreements are about two things:

First, the agreements must make sure the Minister of Health does what they promised in an earlier agreement called the service agreement. This service agreement is mentioned in section 301.

Second, the agreements must make sure that Health New Zealand or other providers give the right information to the Corporation. This information helps the Corporation check that public health services (like medicines and lab tests) are being provided as agreed in the service agreement.

The Minister of Health has to make sure these agreements include certain rules. These rules must:

  1. Match what’s in the service agreement from section 301.
  2. Let the Minister of Health check and maintain quality standards, including ethical standards.
  3. Make sure the Minister of Health gives the Corporation all the important information from the service agreement about the services the Corporation is paying for.
