Accident Compensation Act 2001

Cover - Principles

24: Cover for personal injury caused by work-related gradual process, disease, or infection: exclusion for events occurring outside New Zealand before 1 April 1974

You could also call this:

"No cover for slow work injuries from before April 1974 outside New Zealand"

You can't get help for an injury caused by your work if it happened slowly over time, or if it was caused by a disease or infection related to your job, in certain situations. This rule applies if you did the work or were in the work environment before 1 April 1974, and you were outside of New Zealand when you did that work. It also applies if you weren't usually living in New Zealand when you did that work, even if you live here now when the injury shows up.

If you want to know exactly when the injury is considered to have happened, you can look at Section 37 of this law. That section explains how to figure out the date of the injury.

Remember, this rule is about injuries that happen slowly over time because of work, not sudden accidents. It's specifically about work done outside New Zealand before 1 April 1974.
