Accident Compensation Act 2001

Miscellaneous provisions - Offences and penalties generally

309: Offence not to provide requested information to Corporation

You could also call this:

“It's against the law to not give ACC information they ask for about a claim”

If you are an employer or used to employ someone who has made a claim, provided rehabilitation to someone who has made a claim, or asked for or received payment for someone who has made a claim, this law applies to you.

When the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) asks you for information or a statement, you must give it to them. They need this information to make decisions about cover, provide entitlements quickly and appropriately, or to find out if there’s any fraud.

If ACC asks you for information or a statement and you don’t give it to them without a good reason, you’re breaking the law. This is called an offence.

However, ACC can only ask you for this information if the person who made the claim has said it’s okay, and you know they’ve said it’s okay.

If you break this law and are found guilty, you might have to pay a fine of up to $2,000.
