Accident Compensation Act 2001

Code of ACC Claimants' Rights, and claims - Claims process

55: Responsibilities of claimant to assist in establishment of cover and entitlements

You could also call this:

“Your duties when asking ACC for help after an accident”

When you make a claim for accident compensation, you need to help the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) understand your situation. If ACC asks you to, you must give them a certificate from a health professional that includes the information they need. You also need to provide any other relevant information ACC requests.

You must allow ACC to get your medical and other records that relate to your claim. If ACC asks, you need to have a medical check-up with a health professional they choose. ACC will pay for this. You might also need to have other assessments that ACC pays for.

Any time ACC asks, you need to give them a written statement about specific things related to whether you can get or keep getting cover or benefits. If ACC wants, you might need to make this statement as an official declaration or on a form they give you.

Remember, it’s your job to help ACC understand your claim and decide if you can get help. You need to do these things when ACC asks you to, so they can make the right decision about your case.
