Accident Compensation Act 2001

Management of the Scheme

165: Duty of Corporation

You could also call this:

“ACC's duties: deciding claims, giving benefits, and managing money”

The Corporation has several important duties to carry out. You need to know that they must decide if people are covered when claims are made. They also have to provide benefits to people who are covered under this Act.

The Corporation needs to manage special accounts and follow the rules in Part 7 of the Act. They also have to collect money called levies under this Act.

Another job of the Corporation is to handle disputes as described in Part 5 of the Act. They also have responsibilities related to Part 10, which is about keeping competitive provisions.

If you made a claim that would have been handled under Part 4 of the old Accident Insurance Act 1998, the Corporation can choose which account to use for your benefits. If they later get money from an insurer for providing those benefits, they must put that money back into the account they used.
