Telecommunications Act 2001

Designated services and specified services - Preliminary

19A: Commission to have regard to economic policies of Government

You could also call this:

"The Commission must consider the Government's economic plans when making decisions."

Illustration for Telecommunications Act 2001

When the Commission makes decisions about certain services, it must think about the Government's economic policies. The Minister tells the Commission about these policies in writing. You can find out about these policies because the Minister publishes them in the Gazette and gives a copy to the House of Representatives.

The Commission gets information about the Government's economic policies from the Minister. The Minister sends this information to the Commission and makes it public. This information helps the Commission make good decisions.

The Government's economic policies are not instructions that the Commission must follow, according to the Crown Entities Act 2004, which you can find on the legislation.govt.nz website, specifically in Part 3 of the Crown Entities Act 2004.
